“Play it again,” she begged.

“I just played it three times,” her sister protested.

The younger one pleaded again, this time with her eyes.

“You play it,” her sister told her.

“I don’t know how.”

“Sure you do.” The older sister picked the other’s hands up and placed them on the piano. “You just follow your ears.”

The little girl poked a key, listening to it. She poked it a few more times before exploring the ones around it. Her eyes broadened as she heard one that sounded familiar. Her older sister nodded encouragingly. The little girl found her fingers sifting along the piano, feeling out for each note in the song. Once she had a good idea of where they all were, she repeated it, faster, following the rhythm she’d heard before. Whenever she messed up, she would grumble and her older sister would nudge her hand toward the correct key.

They played like this for some time. Eventually, both of their hands were on the piano, glancing over the black and white keys in search of harmony. They learned then that true music has a distinct sound. It is the sound of two hearts dancing. It is the sound of togetherness.

Thanks for reading!
