2018 Writing Resolutions

Happy New Year!

I know I’m a little late in posting my resolutions but better late than never, right? I’ve been seeing a lot of writers posting their 2018 writing resolutions. Last year I made a similar post reflecting on my hopes and ambitions so I figured I should do another this year.

1) Blog more

Because maybe if I keep saying it, I’ll do it sometime. I’m hoping to post once every two weeks but we’ll see how well that goes with school and content inspiration. If there’s anything you’d like to see here, please comments suggestions or requests. I would also like to apply this goal to my Tumblr where I take asks about writing any time someone has a question.

2) Creative days

At the beginning of my fall semester, I set an arbitrary goal to “create more.” I’m realizing that more quantitative goals are more productive for me. I’m aiming to create at least once a month, just set aside a day to do something for one of my projects. Here’s hoping I do it.

3) Win Camp Nano

I know regular NaNoWriMo in November is too difficult a time of year for me to write a novel, given that it’s not only during the school year but also during finals crunch time. Similarly, the first Camp Nano in April is during finals in the spring semester. So summer is the best time. Lucky for me, Camp Nano is also hosted in June. I’m hoping to set a large goal for myself, prepare adequately, and win!

4) Finish first draft of Louna

The Louna story, as I sometimes call it, is the story I started writing for my YA class this past semester. I have several videos that mention it on my channel so I’ll leave a link to the whole thing if you’re interested. Basically, it’s a contemporary about music, love, and identity. I’d like to crank out the entire first draft, possibly also achieving my Camp Nano goal. I’ve already outlined the whole thing so the writing is all I need.

5) Publish something somewhere

I left this one arbitrary because I have several ideas for publishing short stories and poems and it doesn’t matter which one I do, as long as I get something. One short story I’m hoping to publish to Kindle. Another I may submit to a literary magazine. I have several poems I want to submit to either my school’s magazine or another. It all depends on the work I can put into them and which one will become priority, if I end up having to choose to focus on one. But I have no doubts I will publish something somewhere this year.

Those are my writing goals for 2018! I have several others for my regular life but these seemed the most relevant to this blog. What are your goals for the new year? Comment yours below and if you have any plans on how you’re going to achieve them. I know I could use some inspiration. Feel free to like this post or follow me if you’re interested in seeing how all this pans out.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!
