Hello, friends!
As it is the beginning of May, my summer has just begun. For the next four months, I’ll be at home with my parents, relaxing and preparing for next semester. These are some things I plan to get up to while I’m off of school.
academic
While I’m not taking any summer classes for the next four months, I will be doing some academic work. For my Honors Program, we’re required to create a capstone project within our major, which we begin in our junior year (which for me, is next fall). Part of this project includes an annotated bibliography of whatever research we need for the project. In my usual fashion, I intend to write a novel. I would like to do a rewrite of the novel I drafted my junior year of high school (which actually inspired me to blog). After I first drafted this novel, I tried to edit it a few times, but realized I wanted to redraft it entirely, including a new plot, new characters, and possibly new direction entirely. Because of all these changes, I consider this a somewhat new project.
The novel is about WWI, something I need to research extensively. Over the summer, I intend to do as much research as possible, and essentially put my entire bibliography together. Then in the fall, I can work on plotting and outlining because I’ll have all of my necessary information.
activities
Since I won’t be at school, my internship and clubs will be on hold until I return to school. But while at home for the summer, I’ll have the ability to work at my other job in my hometown. I have the time and ability to earn money so I will be capitalizing on my opportunity to do that. Working is just another thing to balance along with creating this summer.
creative
Speaking of creating, I will be doing a lot of creative work this summer. During May, I intend to finish my two short stories, Frostfire and Siren, and work on publishing those. After that, I’m hoping to finish my YA novel Louna over June, July, and August. This will be in addition to researching for my Honors novel.
I hope to improve on my channel and blog as well, and hopefully get more content out.
inspiration
The summer is really the only time I ever have to read and watch TV. I would really like to get some of my reading pile down by finishing as many books on my shelves as possible. I originally intended to finish every series I have left to complete but I’ll see what I’m able to get around to with all of the research I need to read as well.
Regarding TV, there are several shows on my list on Netflix I’d like to watch, but again, we’ll see what I have time for.
personal
I have a couple trips scheduled for the summer. For the first few months I’ll be staying in town unless something spontaneous comes up. At the end of July, I’m flying to Virginia to visit my aunt and cousins before they move. My other cousin is coming with me. I really want to visit UVA and get a feel for the school. They have a really good free MFA program so I want to visit the school and see how I feel about it before I apply.
After that trip, I’m going to a concert with my best friend. We’re seeing Glass Animals in July in Orlando so I’m super excited. Then I have one more trip in August. My girlfriend and I are seeing Taylor Swift! I’m super excited and blessed to get to see such great artists perform.
In addition to traveling, I also intend to work on my physical health this summer. I want to eat cleaner and exercise often. This is a goal I keep meaning to get to but I struggle to make the time and effort during the school year. I’m hoping the summer will provide me with a relaxed environment that will enable me to budget my time better and build some good, healthy habits.
And that’s about the size of it! I have a lot of things I’m hoping to do so I really hope my ambition holds out. For more personal updates like this, feel free to like this post and follow me. And if you have any suggestions of content you want to see, comment down below.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!
