Me: says I’m going to blog more regularly
Also me: does not do that
Hello, friends!
Being back at school has already been hectic and the real work has barely begun. That said, time for writing has been very minimal as of late. Still, I’m working on a couple of things and I have some more plans in mind. So here is a little update on my personal projects.
As you may or may not know, I have a current WIP currently called Gemini, which tells the story of two Magician girls and their interactions. For a bit more information you can watch my YouTube writing tag, The Naughty List, a holiday themed tag by Jenna Moreci about characters’ bad habits. I haven’t been writing nearly as much as I should on this story. Over winter break, I feel like I hardly touched on it at all. It isn’t really that I’m losing interest in it, just that big projects sometimes overwhelm me. It’s such a large goal that I struggle to motivate myself to work on it. Still, it has not been abandoned, just mildly neglected.
In addition to Gemini, I’ve been working on short stories. Last semester, I took an Intro to Short Story class at school and it gave me a lot of material to work with. One particular story is about dragons. Inspired by Game of Thrones, I really wanted to write a high fantasy about a society of nomadic people who slay dragons. It’s been a really fun experience to work on. Worldbuilding is a ton of work but if you’re really passionate about the world you’re creating, it’s exciting to delve into that world and just create. It’s a little bit like that scene in Inception where Ariadne is just bending streets and turning buildings upside down. It’s a bit like dreaming. Anyway, I’ve been developing that story and adding in details that I can include without paying mind to page count. My hope is to possibly publish the short story on Kindle so I can have a real publication under my belt and to make it more accessible to share.
The last of my plans is to really challenge myself. To do that, I’ve decided to do a month-long writing challenge in February. I’m hoping this will keep me committed to writing so I can keep my mental toolbox sharp (Stephen King’s analogy, not mine). The goal is to write every day using a February prompt list, which has a word or phrase for every day of the month. I’ll be posting my responses on this blog so there should be fairly regular updates on here. I’m not sure if I’ll do any other blogging in addition to that but we’ll see. Depending on how it goes, I may attempt it in later months as well. But let’s not get our hopes up just yet. One month at a time.
That’s my update and goals. How has your writing been going? What goals have you set for yourself? Leave a comment and let me know.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading!
