Writing Challenge Day 1: Crystallize

Water rippled. It shook, shimmered. Then began to change. As if beckoned, it began to curl up. Water climbed the air, twirled. Droplets hardened into fragments, crushed together. The liquid twisted as if drawn out of the water by a string, then tightened along the shape of that thread. Crystals crunched into the outline of a figure, an effigy hard, yet flexible. The figure stepped, crystal toe extended. It dipped along the water’s surface, held aloft. Each step evoked a new ripple, another curling, twisting statue that began to move.

Together, the crystal figures spoke with their bodies. They tapped, created, grew, danced.

Hello, friends! A little lame for the first post of the writing challenge but we’re lucky I’m even squeezing this out. Besides, a bad start means room to grow. Anyway, today my prompts were “crystallize”, “first things first”, and “the comment”. I wrote to the prompt crystallize. To feel inspired, I listened to the song of the same name by Lindsey Stirling. This is the imagery that came to me as I listened. Again, not great but it’s something.

In a video I filmed today (which I’m posting soon) about this writing challenge, I said I would leave all of the prompts that I’m using so here they are (all are from Pinterest):

The picture has a link to my Pinterest board where they’re all saved if you want to trace them back to their origin.

Well, that’s all for the first post. It can only go up from here. I will be posting my video about my process soon and will link it to the next post. Good luck to anyone else who decides to do a writing challenge! Thanks for reading!
